Prof. dr. hab. Wacław Uruszczak emeritus

Zdjęcie Profesora Wacława UruszczakaWacław Uruszczak is Professor of Law and former holder of two chairs at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University, Chair of History of Polish Law (1 October 1997 – 30 September 2017) and the Chair (now Department ) of Church Law and Law on Religious Denominations (September 1992 – 30 September 2017). He graduated from the Faculty of Law and  Administration of the Jagiellonian University in 1969; after which he took the State Judicial Examination to qualify as a judge. In 1975 he was awarded his doctor’s degree in the history of law for a thesis which was the last one written under the supervision of Professor Adam Vetulani. In 1981 he obtained his habilitation degree for his dissertation on the history of Polish law, and in 1990 he was nominated Professor of Law. In 1985-1986 he was the Acting Head of the Institute of History and Law of the Jagiellonian University, and in 1988-1991 the Deputy Head of the Institute. In 1990-1994 he was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University.  At the early stages of his career he won research scholarships from the Max Planck Institute in Frankfurt am Main and the University of Antwerp; as Visiting Professor he lectured at the Universities of Montpellier I, Limoges, Bordeaux I and Poitiers. He maintained scholarly co-operation with the Universities of Liège, Leyden, Louvain, Perugia, and the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of a number of Polish and foreign academic associations, including the Polish Historical Society and the Commission of Legal Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and a corresponding member of  the Académie des Sciences et Lettres in Montpellier, Société d'Histoire de Droit in Paris, La Société d'Histoire du Droit et des Institutions des Anciens Pays in Montpellier, Société Jean Bodin pour l'histoire comparative du droit et des institutions in Brussels, Comission Internationale pour l'Histoire des Assamblées d'Etats et des Institutions Parlamentaires et Representatives in Paris. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Czasopismo Prawno-Historyczne (Legal-Historical Papers). He specializes in the history of Polish law, Poland’s constitutional history, European legal culture. He has supervised and reviewed a great number of M.A., LL.D., and LL.D. habilitation theses. He is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the Team Award of the Minister of Higher Education and Technology in 1977; the Third Degree Award of the Minister of Higher Education and Technology in 1979;  in 1977; the Award of the Minister of Higher Education and Technology in 1981; the Joachim Lelewel Award of the Section I of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1981; the Individual Award of the Minister of Higher Education (1 October 1992) and two awards of the Minister of Higher Education in 2001 (an individual one and a joint one, together with Stanisław Grodziski and Irena Dwornicka). He is the author of a number of books and articles, including such authoritative monographs as Próba kodyfikacji prawa polskiego w pierwszej połowie XVI wieku [An Attempt to Codify Polish Law in the First Half of 16th Century] (1979), Sejm Walny Koronny w latach 1505-1540 [The General Sejm of the Kingdom of Poland in 1505-1540] (1981), Korektura Praw z 1532 r. Studium historyczno-prawne [The Correctura Iurium of 1532: A Study in Legal History] (Vol. I 1990, Vol. II 1991). He is the co-editor of Volumina Constitutionum. 

 

Prof. dr hab. Wacław Uruszczak – profesor nauk prawnych, profesor zwyczajny w UJ (1993–2017), były kierownik dwóch jednostek organizacyjnych na Wydziale Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, tj. Katedry Historii Prawa Polskiego (1.X.1997–30.IX.2017) i Katedry później Zakładu Prawa Kościelnego i Wyznaniowego (IX.1992–30.IX.2017).  Ukończył studia prawnicze na Wydziale Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w 1969 r. Po aplikacji złożył egzamin sędziowski. W 1975 r. uzyskał stopień doktora nauk prawnych w zakresie historii prawa polskiego na podstawie dysertacji przygotowanej pod kierunkiem prof. dr hab. Adama Vetulaniego, jako ostatni z jego uczniów. Habilitację z zakresu historii prawa polskiego osiągnął w 1981 r. Tytuł naukowy profesora nauk prawnych uzyskał w 1990 r.  W latach 1985-1986 pełnił obowiązki dyrektora Instytutu Historyczno-Prawnego UJ, a w latach 1988-1991 był zastępcą dyrektora tego Instytutu. W latach 1990-1994 pełnił funkcję prodziekana ds. ogólnych Wydziału Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Odbył zagraniczne staże naukowe: w Instytucie Maxa Plancka we Frankfurcie nad Menem i w Uniwersytecie w Antwerpii. Był profesorem wizytującym uniwersytetów w Montpellier I, Limoges, Bordeaux I, Poitiers, Paris IV. Współpracował naukowo z uniwersytetami w: Liège (Belgia), Leuven (Belgia), Leyden (Niderlandy), Perugia  (Włochy),  Berkeley (USA),  Czeskie Budziejowice (Rep. Czeska).  Członek wielu towarzystw naukowych krajowych i zagranicznych m. in. Polskiego Towarzystwa Historycznego, członek korespondent Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności od 2012 r., członek korespondent Academie des Sciences et Lettres w Montpellier od 1982 r., Société d'Histoire de Droit w Paryżu od 1979 r., Société d'Histoire du Droit et des Institutions des Anciens Pays de Droit w Montpellier od 1977 r., Société Jean Bodin pour l'histoire comparative du droit et des institutions, Comission Internationale pour l'Histoire des Assemblées d'Etats et des Institutions Parlamentaires et Représentatives od 1989 r. Członek komitetu redakcyjnego Czasopisma Prawno-Historycznego, redaktor naczelny Krakowskich Studiów z Historii Państwa i Prawa. Jego specjalizacja naukowa to: historia prawa polskiego, historia ustroju Polski, prawo kanoniczne i wyznaniowe, europejska kultura prawna, prawo ubezpieczeń.  Promotor, opiekun naukowy i recenzent wielu prac magisterskich, przewodów doktorskich, habilitacyjnych i profesorskich. Laureat wyróżnień i nagród za osiągnięcia naukowe, w szczególności: Ministra Szkolnictwa Wyższego i Techniki (1977, 1979, 1981); nagrody im. Joachima Lelewela I-go Wydziału Polskiej Akademii Nauk (1981); indywidualnej nagrody Ministra Edukacji Narodowej (1 X 1992 r.) i zespołowej nagrody Ministra Edukacji Narodowej (1 X 2001 r. wraz z S. Grodziskim i I. Dwornicką), nagrody Rektora UJ „Laur Jagielloński” (2006).   Autor ok. 700 publikacji naukowych m. in. monografii: Próba kodyfikacji prawa polskiego w pierwszej połowie XVI wieku (1979), Sejm Walny Koronny w latach 1505-1540(1980), Korektura Praw z 1532 r. Studium historyczno-prawne (t. I 1990, t. II 1991), Opera historico-iuridica selecta. Prawo kanoniczne – Nauka prawa – Prawo wyznaniowe (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego 2017).  Zasłużony wydawca źródeł historyczno-prawnych, w tym dawnych ksiąg sądowych Krakowa i Nowego Wiśnicza. Współwydawca pomnikowej edycji ustaw staropolskiego sejmu walnego – Volumina Constitutionum. W latach 1993–2009 prowadził indywidualną kancelarię adwokacką w Krakowie. Długoletni wykładowca na Wydziale Prawa Kanonicznego w Uniwersytecie Papieskim Jana Pawła II w Krakowie. Od 2004 r. profesor w Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Zawodowej w Tarnowie. W 2018 r. wyróżniony przez Senat UJ medalem „Merentibus” za szczególne zasługi dla Uczelni. Za całokształt działalności naukowej został 17 listopada 2016 r. odznaczony przez papieża Franciszka rycerskim orderem św. Sylwestra w klasie komandora.
